Cambridge Science Centre Summer bake off for Macmillan Cancer Support

Written on 5 Oct 2015 in Blog

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. They ask people all over the UK to host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone they raised £25 million and this year they are aiming to raise even more.

Our brilliant Product Developement Officer, Mandy Curtis took charge and coordinated the Cambridge Science Centre contriubution to be more than just one morning, but rather a series of mornings across the summer period. She said;

'It is a well known fact that Science Communicators need sustenance to cope with the influx of summer visitors so we thought we'd put the calories to good use and support the Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning at the same time. We drew up a cake rota and staff volunteered to make cakes. There was no shortage of willing volunteers to eat them, either, and over the summer the Communicators, with the help of some of the other staff who snuck into the kitchen from time to time, raised an amazing £101.22! I hope that none of you ever need the help of the brilliant MacMillan nurses, but they ensure that no one faces cancer alone and are worth every last penny - and calorie!!'

We are so pleased to have supported such a wonderful cause and a big thanks to the team who contributed their time and effort into baking and consuming such wonderful treats.
